Word of the Week

I love looking up words in the dictionary. If I hear a words that interests me enough, I will go on dictionary.com and find out what it means. While watching one of my all-time favorite chick flicks, The Holiday, one of the characters wad told she needed more gumption in her life.

Gumption:noun Informal: initiative; aggressiveness; resourcefulness, courage; spunk; guts.

This word has been on my mind all week. Gumption. Not only I find it to be a word that describes how I should be living my life, but also it's an amusing word to say. As school drawer nearer (six more days to be exact) I find myself cowering and worrying about what is to come. I know I have gumption. I've used it before in my life. So why is it so hard to try and bring it back from a long sleep? I think for me it's because of fearing it won't be what I thought it was going to be if I do try. I'm determined to not be this way in the spring.
General Conference was last weekend and service was a main point in most of the the speakers talks. The lyrics to, "Have I Done Any Good?" come to my mind now. "Wake up and do something more. Than dream of your mansion above". Maybe the gumption I need is not just in achieving my goals academically, but in service to others as well.
That's what's on my mind tonight. It will all work out in the end no matter what happens. So here's to having gumption in life, for both yours and mine!
The girl who needs gumption...and a corny, funny man in her life equals me :)
